Josh Walker shares his story of why he is Surf’s Smart!
I was surfing punchy, head head beach break in a weird shallow tide on the north shore in New England. It was a holiday weekend and I was showing off for a new girlfriend on the beach, unsuccessfully! I was pulling into closeouts, going on every wave I could. I got sucked up over the falls tried to pull back with my board between my legs, and I got pitched in a weird position over the falls.

The outside fin went in and out of my leg so fast, through a 4.3MM wet tie, I didn’t even know it had happened. The fin was that sharp. It missed all my major muscles, and did not cripple me, but the doc said I was perilously close to my femoral artery. You can see the stitches. I have broken a leg (tin/fib spiral), my Humorous, fingers, the next day this was the most pain I have ever been in. Mentally after an injury so severe, it was hard to surf again, the then GF instantly hated it and wanted me to quit. A east coast pro I have always looked up too, Ben, said a few things to me that made me realize you can’t be scared and David and the good people at Surfco made a product that helped me feel safer. You can good on people being safe all you want but until you are on the beach with your leash as a tourniquet, thinking you are bleeding to death, you will never know what some peace of mmd will being you. So I am once again pulling into closeouts trying to impress a my new girlfriend. God bless.
